Article: [senco-forum] Re Reading research project

I believe that the reading process is the process of acquiring sight vocabulary and that a poor reader is simply someone with a limited sight vocabulary. I also take the view that any child with an IQ of 85 or over who has no other significant learning disability can learn to read without specific phonics tuition, simply by completing a short (15 min) sight vocabulary exercise every working day for one school term. I am seeking to find a number of teachers who will assist in a research project to test this proposition. The research tool which I will provide is a computer programme and ideally, pupils involved would be able to complete one of these exercises daily.

I will respond to general enquires which might interest forum members on-list but anyone interested in becoming involved, or who knows of anyone who might be interested, please contact me off-list at eddiecarron at btconnect.com
