[senco-forum] Re Reading research project

Have asked SENco as we have a number of poor readers.

There is no one-to-one requirement. The project begins at the beginning of 
the summer term and last for that term only. There is no word learing, 
either singly or in lists. It is simply a routine exposure to words in a way 
that ensure that they stay longer in visual focus than is possible in a text 
stream in reading. The project begins in at the beginning of the summer term 
and lasts one term. The computer programme is self-monitoring and the 
teaching role is simply to facilitate ie to ensure completion of the daily 
15 min session.  There are no intermediate tests of words learned or 
anything of that nature - only pre and post testing of reading age. There 
are no 'right or wrongs and there are no end 'scores'    It is for each 
participating school to decide which pupils will participate. The approach 
has already been shown to be singularly successful with children with short 
term memory deficit but only with a small group of children.  I am making no 
stipulation as to the nature of any child's learning disability or as to 
what reading-age tests are to be used. Schools which express a desire to 
participate will be sent the programme and an outline of how the programme 
should be conducted. The requirements are very limited and very transparent.

Before I posted this notice I had already secured a good number of 
participating schools and since posting the notice on the forum, there have 
now been an additional sixteen enquiries and from these, three definites 
wishing to participate.
