You might want to consider telling the parent that she could seek education advice if she wished. (You or your colleague could also speak to such advisors, but any advice they might be able to give you may be be limited in comparison as you may not have knowledge of some details of significance). People say good things about IPSEA and ACE: <http://www.ipsea.org.uk/about.htm> "Independent Panel for Special Education Advice IPSEA is a registered charity (established in 1983) offering free and independent advice to parents of children with special educational needs in England and Wales on: local authorities¹ legal duties to assess and provide for children with special educational needs; exclusions of children with special needs/disabilities; actions or inaction by local authorities and/or schools which discriminate against children with disabilities." England and Wales (freephone): 0800 0184016 Mon to Thu 10--4 and 7--9; Fri 10--1 and 7--9 <http://www.ace-ed.org.uk/advice/index.html> "The Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) is an independent advice centre for parents and carers, offering information about state funded education in England and Wales for 5-16 year olds. We offer free telephone advice on all education issues, including exclusion from school, bullying, special educational needs and school admission appeals. We are a registered charity and hold the Community Legal Service's Quality Mark for general help." General advice line: 0808 800 5793 (M-F 2-5pm) Regards, Mike -- Mike Boyd <mike at green43.demon.co.uk> |
