    What about the ethics of teaching children to guess words from their
shape, context, initial letters & pictures - all of which 'skills'  are
totally unnecessary for successful reading ?

For many this is the only way that they can progress, and yet you prefer to
prevent those who need to learn this way from learning at all and prefer to
start the process of educational alienation.
