[senco-forum] Literacy

My son's "problems" are language and literacy. Despite
the vehement denials of teachers at his former school,
his delayed speech development definitely (obviously!)
affected his ability to read. 

I am very encouraged that there are people so
committed to education - in this case literacy - that
they are willing to argue about techniques and
terminology. My personal view is that different
methods are appropriate in different cases. Blindingly
obvious though this may seem, I have been stunned at
the blinkered "this is how WE do it" attitude of
teachers who apply one rule for all. This may be for a
variety of reasons - my best guess would be
"resources" - but it really should be "this is the way
THEY (the children) NEED it to be done".
