Article: [SENco-forum] learning to read -- extended to Statementing issues

Not true -

Most LEA's have ring-fenced funding they put aside for adverse
Tribunal/Ombudsmen decisions etc., that does not affect the paltry amount of
money that trickles down to each individual SEN child via devolved budgets.

My LEA tried blackmailing me ( and many other parents) with the information
that a Tribunal costs L4,000 and to insist on one would then deprive all
children of needed support.

Nice try! After 2 years I had run out of sympathy and would have gone
ahead even if it had sucked L4,000 directly out of my own children's school
had that eventually worked for a greater good - better SpLD understanding,
compliance with COP, correct support for my, or other, children.

If the LEA had listened to my, or other professional advice, not only could
the Statementing process been avoided altogether but so could many wasted
man hours - 11 people at a transition review all morning when the SENco & I
could have thrashed it out alone in 1/2 an hour.

There are huge problems with the Statementing process, but that does not
mean it is not a good thing in principle.

l
....., but that award has to come out of the current year's Education budget
and
therefore reduces the monies available to all other SEN children and so the
cycle of failure is perpetuated.
