I'm so glad to hear that Birmingham is addressing this issue. Any chance you could let me have a copy of this document or let me know from whom I could obtain this? One issues I keep coming up against is the attitude "Senior management knows best" ...none of whom have any first hand experience of daily living with disability. This from a profession within which workers who have significant disabilities are grossly under-represented owing to past blatant and continuing subtle institutional discrimination against disabled people wishing to work in schools. David Bowles > Not sure where you are based but Birmingham certainly has a policy > document called Success for Everyone, recently revised and > republished, which goes through all the issues, starting with ethos > and managerial responsiblities. It is also published online, free to > Birmingham users and about to be available to others for a small > fee. Cheers Jan >> One of my pet gripes about most of the Disability Equality Policies >> I've seen published by most schools is the fact these concentrate >> almost exclusively on 'the material provision of facilities'... |
