Article: [senco-forum] Testing reading

We test all Year 7 on entry in September, then again at the end of the
year. In year 8 we test all at the start of the year but subsequently
only those with RA scores below 8.6. We continue with this till Year 10.
We also test all casual entries (we have quite a lot).

I'm just wondering really. We test reading using NFER Comprehension
tests at the start and end of Years 7 and 8.
Now, the children in the top sets for English don't really vary a great
deal - up and down a little bit but nothing massive. I a,m just
wondering whether it's actually worth testing these children again in
Year 8 and whether to concentrate on testing the lower ability children
and carry it on into Year 9 as well.
We're talking about it at HoFs on Wednesday night but I wondered what
other schools did - do you test absolutely everybody or are you
selective once the initial screening is done ?JaniceJanice Wray
