I had some involvement with this for a Year 7 boy. We were able to start and stop the software from "listening" so that we could speak the sentences to him and then he could repeat them to train the software. He had Kurtzveil 3000 (I think) to read the work back to him, rather than Dragon, which simply replays what he said. This was to help him pick up when the software has mis-typed his intended words. Unfortunately I left that school shortly afterwards so I can't say how he got on with it long-term. We thought of trying Dragon software for a bright Y7 child who cannot read (yet - but we're working on it...). The biggest hurdles seem to be the 'training' passages, which have to be read - which he can't do, and a strong local accent. Is it worth persisting with? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. We have used dragon naturally speaking at school in the past but it is a few years old. Is there anything new out there that anybody knows anything about? Caroline Get the latest Dragon (9 I think).
