New growing Secondary School with current yrs 7-10, 620 children. SEN Funding will not increase in Sept when we get new yr 7, except for Statemented students. (everyone else rolls over their yr 11 funding) We get Matrix monies for the statemented students which is used to support TA and teacher time. Students at School Action and School Action plus are funded as for numbers at School Census in January at £75 per SA (Primaries get £350 per SA) and £750 per SA+ We take from that figure a % to cover on-costs and time not with the student. We pay approx £9.00 - £10.00 per hour with London weighting to cover 40 weeks of the year. This equates to NO TA time for SA as by the time I have read the file and advised staff over the year and then reviewed it has all gone. One or 2 may make it in to an enhancement group Full time TAs paid for 32 hrs a week as includes payment for all breaks, but do 2 duties, after school meetings, Tutor times, Worship Time (We are a Church secondary) preparation for Enhancement groups and Homework club Have 100 at SA 70 at SA+ brings in about £55,000 20 with Statements, but various hours brings in about £100,000 This equates to about 30% of the School Roll. Most other schoolsi n our area are 15%, people have seen us a new and smll = small classes and lots of teachers, WRONG!!! I currently have 11 TAs covering time within the class setting of 245 hrs a week with 69 hours given to other things between them. They are all on permamnet contracts. There is myself, not Full time in SEN as also insist on teaching Maths in the Main School 0.5 SEN teacher from Sept 0.5 Behaviour Manager, he is taking more of this from me It is not enough, but it is over the allocation, although I did remind the Money bodies at school tht someof the AWPU shoudl be included and was quickly told this is what paid my salary!! Sharon - can you get this to fit into your chart. The important thing is not how many inthe school, but the numbers of studens and their range of needs. I have worked in a school of 500, 60% SEN with 20 Full time TAs. Sounds a lot until you see that 40 had Statmements and hog SA+, another school of 1000 had 6 TAs, very small SEN and 6 TAs who had to look for work to do!
