Perhaps Ruth could list a time on Friday to post the questions and trust everyone to only spend 15 minutes & not cheat. Replies to be posted to the SENco forum. Anyone mad enough to expose themselves to this must be game to do it live on TV. Count me out. Although brilliant at Trivial Pursuit I would be as useful as a chocolate teapot under the studio lights (or JP's baleful stare). Sharon Tringham -----Original Message----- From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk]On Behalf Of Ruth Newbury Sent: 10 August 2007 20:41 To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: [senco-forum] UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE - ENTRANCE DETAILS Here are the details of what is required for University Challenge. Volunteers for the team please. 4 are needed plus a reserve. Look at the dates required - you will all be probably working - are your schools and institutions going to let you have time off for this? All this has to be entered by July 25th - so we need to get our skates on before the end of term. Photos of team members are needed too. Ideas of how we select if there are hundreds of you wanting to do this? If you would like to be there in the team please email me - a phone number would be helpful too - perhaps email me off forum with that. And there are 25 questions for the team to discuss and answer in 15 minutes - I have deliberately not looked at them! And personally, because this is an "oddball" sort of team - a large group who only really communicate by email - and who rarely meet up - perhaps we might stand a chance of being selected for "an inspection" - so let's go for it. If I put a deadline on - contact me by Sunday night if you are interested. So here are the details Following on from the success of 'University Challenge - the Professionals', another series is soon to go into production. As the title suggests, instead of students, teams consist of people who work in a particular profession or who belong to a particular institution. Apart from that, the series works in exactly the same way as the student series - the same level of general knowledge questions (ie questions not specific to the profession of the team) and of course the same presenter - Jeremy Paxman. How to apply :- We are looking for teams of 4 people from different professions or organisations. To help us gather information about you, could your team please fill out the questionnaire and have a go at the quiz attached. Ideally you should do the quiz as a team, not using reference books and spending no more than about 15 minutes on it. These are the various stages:- a. Having submitted the team application, we would like to meet your team at a venue near you in autumn 2007. 'The Professionals' recordings will consist of:- b. - one day's location filming (at a venue which best reflects the work and tradition of your particular profession or institution). c. - plus up to two consecutive days at a later date around autumn 2007 doing studio recordings at Granada TV in Manchester for the actual quiz. (ie a first round match on the first day and should your team progress, the Semis and Final on the next day. All expenses (and accommodation if applicable) will be provided.
