Depends on their learning style, but if they want to do hands on stuff then build models of whatever is going on in history, or ask them to design and make games for others or younger students. This way you can cover lower level work with the excuse that it is for someone else. Everyone wants to be needed. One boy with some severe problems was really happy to help out with some basic noun based games with a new student who spoke no English. He derived great pleasure for being the better student for once and the 2nd student saw him as helpful and friendly and did not 'see' the difficulties first, as other students did. He also suggested the new student read Fuzz Buzz and was happy to sit and share these as well as explaining some picture books. Making books (with ICT) that can be turned into auditory books for personal or others use, can cover any subject or social situation that you need to address.
