The carers allowance is means tested - and if you are already receiving benefits in some form - you will lose some part of those. And the disability booklet - you write a novel when you fill it in - and it requires contributions from all and sundry involved in your treatment. One nice nurse spent a happy afternoon looking up the stuff we needed for two pages! I can understand how people give up on the disability allowance because it is particularly involved. As I recall this is a means-tested allowance (I might be wrong about this), in which case if these parents are not living almost wholly on benefits then they might not qualify. This is different to disability living allowance which is not means tested. However as a precondition they would have to be receiving Disability Living Allowance for their child. Now this is worth applying for, although the form (tens of pages) is horrendous with almost a small essay required for several of the boxes. I've found the best source of help in the Internet regarding these benefits can be found at; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk Hope this helps, David Bowles > I have been asked by the parent of a child with severe ADHD if they > qualifeid for the carers allowance and I seem top remember that > someone on the forum made a relevant contribution on this subject > some time ago.
