Your cleaner has time to clean your desk!!! Mine empties my bin and hoovers the floor if it looks obviously dirty. Mind you, that's all you can do in the four minutes he has been allocated to do the office. (Office was one classroom - cleaning time ten minutes. Now divided into two offices and one half size classroom - cleaning time generously extended to 4 + 4 + 6 minutes).

I have only recently discovered the phone button. It had been very quiet on the phone for 2 days. The office then asked where I had been as I was not answering my phone. We checked it out and sure enough it was not ringing. We called the engineers I quote 'before we come out can you get him to check the ring on/off button on the side of the phone'. Sure enough it was turned to off. I guess that the cleaner must have knocked it whilst cleaning my desk. It has taken several weeks to live it down.

These have caused some smiles! The most useful things for me - tissues (mainly for me!!), coffee, the fan in my office during the summer, my picture of the Isle of Skye (wishing I was there!) and seriously, my computer - it helps to keep me sane. Mike, can you get me an off button for my phone? I'd love one.

On a different note, I have been reminded today of the strangest Annual Review I have ever conducted when a parent interrupted the review to change her toddler's very dirty nappy in the middle of the room. The look on the LEA rep's face was a picture. The review was concluded very quickly after that!!

Richard,

It must be you wonderful supportive nature. It usually me that is reduced to tears by the parents at reviews.

My number 1 item is my puter without it I could not read all the great E-mails on this forum, (creep, creep).

2. WPB.
3. My sense of humour.
4. My scene of scepticism.
5. My kettle & coffee.
6. The lock on the door.
7. The fire ( it's B..... cold in my office in the winter).
8. The window blinds ( it's B...... hot in the summer and I can't see the puter screen for the sun).
9. High lighter pens to make sure memos get to the correct teachers.
10. The button on my phone that turns the ringer off.
Must be loads more but all 'tongue in cheek'.
All the best.

After a difficult and somewhat tearful IEP review today I realised how
nvaluable my box of tissues is. I've always bought tissues for my room and
lways make sure I have a spare on hand. Sooo useful (do others have
earful parents/pupils/TAs in reviews or is it just my excellent 'bedside
anner that reduces them to tears?).
I would put in order:
1) tissue box - for tearful reviews/TAs
) paper recycling bin - as alternative main filing cabinet
) stapler - to keep all the thousands of bits of paper together
) staples that fit the stapler - to go in 4 above, (why does every stapler
ake a differnet size staple?)
) post it notes - as wallpaper (of all the jobs I need to do)
So in a top ten list, what is the most useful/indispensible thing in your
oom?
richard
