Just looking at an advertisement to work at Connexions 'guidance to teenagers/young adults: 'LDD co-ordinator L29,000 - to give a strategic steer on all of our activities with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities whilst retaining a 0.5 caseload. Ensure our responses to LDD are appropriate, coordinate the development of locally-managed specialists'. So - not a SENCO. Some SENco's are being relabelled Inclusion Managers, but whatever the label something icky always seems to get stuck to the meaning. 'Special' is becoming as patronising as 'handicapped' and having just read 'Bad mouthing' looking at naming of people with disabilities this is the way it goes. Whatever is PC will not be so in 5 years time. Disabled/disabilities is out for some so LDD will not be an improvement. Differently abled (my blind friends choice) is scoffed at by some being considered by some to be the choice of wet liberals trying not to hurt peoples feelings -results in 'vertically challenged' instead of small. This 1996 book however is now also a little behind the times. My daughter offers 'Learning Facilitator' I like 'Personalised Learning Co-ordinator' - to draw together best practice in accessing learning inline with government 'Personalised Learning' policy.
