Whilst I know that this is oftern discussed as a student is behind academically, emotional vulnerable, and happens for statemtned and non-statmented plese consider the difficulties when a studnt is older - They are able to leave school before they would have completed their KS4 examinations and will often just vote with their feet.
 
Many more secondary schools do not admit students out of the year group which can mean a studnt having to go from year 6 to year 8 if they have not been moved back up the groups  in time for transfer.
 
Consider, in a secondary school we aare having to get our heads around P Scales, if these students had not moved up with their peers then they would still be receiving a Yr 1 curriculum aged 12.
 
It should be possible to find ways of differentiating the curriculum to help this child move up with their peers.
