Remember Chris that those who complete the assessments are not those who make the decisions - that has to be the exam officer who simply apply the criteria stated in the exam regulations. This has been the case for the last two years. A handwriting speed of 15 wpm is not below average but within the average range. If in doubt refer to the exam board for their view. His parents arranged this assessment and are now expecting the recommendation of 25% extra time in his GCSE's to be allowed by the school. Unfortunately there is no history of need/provision or support. This pupil's scores are generally in the average range although there is a difference of 108 for Verbal IQ compared to 94 for Non-verbal;. The recommendation for extra time is based on slow handwriting speed (due to the dyspraxia) of 15wpm, which is only slightly below the recommended average of 16.9 wpm. I am not meaning to be uncaring and want to give this pupil every opportunity to do himself justice but just feel a little concerned that we do not have enough evidence to justify the additonal time allowance.
