From: June Marriott <june_marriott at yahoo.co.uk> > numerous sound reasons for this course of action. I wonder > why some of us are so vehemently opposed? I wouldn't go that far. I would say that grouping by birthday has many faults. My point is if you group some kids according to ability (social and academic) and not age then all kids should be grouped this way. We are considering moving from Beds to Oxfordshire to move my son away from the Beds Middle school system. The Beds system essentially means that kids start secondary school two years early and I don't think little O is ready. (We wouldn't even consider moving to Bucks with its antiquated and discriminatory selctive system.) So I can fully see the points you are making. I would say that when children are 'backyeared' and it is a great success you don't know that they wouldn't have been successful anyway. The same is true of any intervention though! -- Mark Norwood www.avssc.org "The e-mail of the species is more deadly than the mail" (Stephen Fry) ======================================================================== This email has been sent from the Bucks LEA.
