Hi Chris I've read the replies you have had so far and I want to move away from what the CoP says, important as that is, to whether to do what the parents want and if so how. First - who made the diagnosis? Then - if the 1-1 support is going to be out of school, who is going to give it and how are you supposed to know what has been done / achieved in a way which is not too time consuming. And how are you going to communicate that information to others staff. Then - do the parents want subject specific targets related to the pupil's achievement in that subject? If so, that seems to be what teachers should have already. Long and medium term targets are in the main planning and short term are in my mark book, for instance. The question would be how you communicate the targets to the parents (the child should know them!) and how you report on them. We do two reviews a year on every pupil one of which is the annual report. However - if they want subject specific targets related to the pupil's dyslexia then I think you have a problem of communication. In my school, I would write an IEP for this pupil as a School Action Plus IEP. I'd review twice a year. I'd say that the pupil has the offer of 1-1 support and justify it that way to other staff. Parents want the support out of school so no curriculum lessons are missed but they also want each teacher in school to set short, medium and long term targets for their child (with regular reviews) for each subject and with separate targets on an IEP. Currently (and I am new to this) the policy at school is not to produce an IEP for a child unless they are having 1:1 support, or have a statement. This is related to practicality of monitoring and evaluating progress and whether the iEP is just a piece of paper...... Instead there is regular email communication between all staff about progress of pupils who have been identified pupils for monitoring and of concern. Parents are not happy. Any advice/views please?
