'ADD' as opposed to 'ADHD' usually denotes the 'principally distractible' subtype of this disorder rather than the more in your face 'principally hyperactive' subtype. 'ADD' (as opposed to 'ADHD') tends to be proportionally far more prevalent in girls, and is one of the main reasons why girls with ADHD are less likely to receive a diagnosis compared with boys. After all children who seem always to be in a daydream are far less likely to get noticed when compared with far more disruptive hyperactive ADHD children who are 'climbing up the walls' and driving their teachers to despair. > ...but we are not convinced of this diagnosis. If they are now on medication see if their ability to concentrate without getting distracted has improved. You might suggest to the parents you are willing to provide their doctor with feedback for the purpose of titrating the optimal dose and the just as important timing of these doses most appropriate for this child.
