Hello all In tune with the current threads going around, we have one of our students has had a one day fixed term exclusion as he injured his LSA (she had to go to Accident and Emergency). I don't really want to discuss the whys or hows of exclusions, the pros or cons. What is done is done. I would like to ask you all for help for my LSAs. I have 15 statements at my primary school, but only one child in the whole school with any behavioural difficulites. I have a meeting with my 22 LSAs tomorrow who have been overwhelmed by this child's behaviour so much that the words 'schizophrenic' and 'psychotic' and being used and they are refusing to work with him asking why we can't expell him. I am meeting with my LSAs tomorrow (a scheduled meeting anyway). I need to get a few points across - issues to do with Inclusion of all children, DDA, adapting the way we deal with this child to suit his needs etc. Part of the problem stems from the fact that we have never had a child with a behavioural difficulty of this extent in the school, and my LSAs are unaware of the fact that most schools have many children (not just one) with similiar difficulties in their schools. Any advice on issues to bring up would be helpful. Issues that my LSAs can relate to without throwing too much policy their way - something that can help point out that this is the neediest and most vulnerable child we have had in our school, along with the most challenging. The meeting is tomorrow (Friday) morning - short notice I know, but any advice would be appreciated.
