Article: [senco-forum] social skills club and games

Hi janice

I've just returned from a day of competitive gaming with my largely SEN
group of Warhsammer 40k gamers. After two years of lunchtime gaming my club
was good enough to play againdst other schools in a regional final. Of the
two teams we fielded we came a very creditable and extremely close second -
not bad for for a group of inner-city 14-15 year olds as the winners were 18
year old grammer school A-level pupils!

Furthermore my team consisted of one boy with a statement for speech and
language difficulties, another statemented with Aspergers and a third at
SA+, the fourth is their best mate.

For anyone considering a lunxh time club - Gamesworkshop's three gaming
systems - Warhammer, Warhammer 40K and Lord of the Rings certainly captures
their imagination, encorages reading (all those who entered today were given
a novel to read for participating) mathematics, social skills,
communitcation etc - I could go on.

It is expensive but when you've had the great day my club have enjoyed today
(yes a Saturday, and in the holiday too!) it is well worth it.

Richard

My T.A.s are thinking of running a social skills club at lunchtime for
selected pupils.
I have seen in the Incentive plus catalogue that there are lots of games one
can buy.
I was wondering if anyone else has run such a club or if anyone out there
uses any of the games and which might be best.
Many thanks
