Naglieri's CAS (Cognitive assessment system) is the best assessment tool if
you are wanting to know how the pupil processes information, it is
descriptive AND prescriptive and does not rely on already acquired knowledge
and is relatively culture free unlike the wisc and the bas.  It derives from
the PASS theory of intelligence (Planning, Attention, Successive,
Simultaneous).  It provides an accurate picture of an individual's abilities
in these 4 areas and remedial approaches to match the profile of
difficulties, if any.  The bas and wisc are more or less based on the binet
simon approach although of late the wisc has started to include PASS type
tests.  The cas needs a little more time than the others but repays this
with information and advice that is relevant to the teacher.   I like it.
