Hi Lorraine I'm using the SRA Decoding Skills books, but adapting them to deliver comprehension, spelling and writing. As reading books they are American with a very didactic approach, somewhat inflexible. But as a spring board to literacy I've found them easy to use and easy to adapt for my groups. We're finding that reading, wrioting, spelling skills are weak some can't access curriculum without a great deal of support because independent reading is poor and they're unwilling to put pen to paper. Next academic year we're thinking of trialling an English set in Y7 which concentrates on developing these much needed skills for 3 lessoms per week? Anyone got any hints?
