We are also struggling with SATs.  However, one boy who wanted to have  a go 
at Science, with a reader and extra time, was allowed to do so , but is not  
expected to suffer through literacy or maths - he is simply marked "B" for 
those  tests as working below Level 3.
We all thought this year's Vesuvius and Pompeii themed reading tests for Y6  
was one of the hardest we have seen.  We had 2 children in tears and one  
whose hand kept going up like a yoyo asking for help which I simply could not  
give him.  remarkably, they still said at the end "you just have to do your  
best".

Well done kids everywhere. Shame on the system for continuing to inflict  
SATs.  I can promise you we did not learn a single new thing about our  chidlren 
that we did not know already - except that they don't know much about  
volcanoes, eruptions or pumice.
