My understanding is that one form is where the brain finds everything important so is constantly flicking between different things (stimulation threshold low, so easily triggered)... the other is when the brain finds nothing important (stimulation threshold high so not so easily triggered). Hence the low versus high versions of AD/HD. In both cases clarity of attention-focus is required ... help child identify aspects of importance and support attention by using multi-sensory stimuli that trigger different aspects of attention. For those who are easily distracted, overload of stimulation can create problems. Help them identify aspects of environments that create stress ... help them choose not to sit next to the window rather than just telling them they can't. best wishes, Sally (Plymouth) > It is the same - > But - > One is noticeable through hyperactivity - > And the other is noticeable through inactivity - > Both show themselves in the classroom through (generally) not being able > to concentrate on the work in hand. > > Generally, girls seem to come under the lack of activity one. > > Hence both come under the umbrella of difficulty in sustaining > attention. > The short answer. > Stuart > > > -----Original Message----- > From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk > [mailto:senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of Kitty > McKenzie > Sent: 16 May 2007 16:04 > To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk > Subject: [senco-forum] ADD/ADHD ?difference > > I was under the impression that ADD/ADHD were different disorders, one > quite > passive and one hyperactive.
