Hi Julie Our TAs are either on variable hours permanent contracts or fixed term ones. Generally, variable hours contracts let us adjust their hours every year without having to actually issue a new contract. They are paid in 12 monthly installments rather than over 11 months. (This is a long standing problem in Cornwall - TAs are acutually paid for something like 43 weeks a year) It means that they can say they are permantly employed if they want something like a bank loan. However, they are still only paid for contact time and we can still only pay a fraction of what they are worth to the school and, most importantly, to the pupils. We are looking to change to these in September and I would welcome some thoughts. Julie Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall |
