Article: [senco-forum] TA contracts

Hi Julie
Our TAs are either on variable hours permanent contracts or fixed term ones. Generally, variable hours contracts let us adjust their hours every year without having to actually issue a new contract. They are paid in 12 monthly installments rather than over 11 months. (This is a long standing problem in Cornwall - TAs are acutually paid for something like 43 weeks a year) It means that they can say they are permantly employed if they want something like a bank loan. However, they are still only paid for contact time and we can still only pay a fraction of what they are worth to the school and, most importantly, to the pupils.

Does anyone have any experience of permanent variable hours contracts for TAs? We are looking to change to these in September and I would welcome some thoughts.
