Article: [senco-forum] Working with pupils with Asperger's as a career

Birmingham University has online courses which will take her all the
way from Certification, based on whatever work she may be doing right
now (eg observing a child with autism in the classroom) to doctoral
level. It's possible that the course is full up already for a January
start - she can but ask. There are other little islands of great
practice around the country - Sunderland, London, and Sheffield.

She is welcome to contact me direct if she has any questions about the
course. I can also put her in touch with relevant forums (write
PERSONAL EMAIL in the subject line so I don't miss it).

The best way to get started is to mix and mingle with people already
working in the (research) field by going to regional or national
conferences (eg as arranged by the National Autistic Society and local
Austism groups). You find out the movers and shakers and the good
places to work. There's a whole 'nother world out there with some
wonderful specialist schools (mostly private which pay well!) and good
specialist mainstream units.

Hope that helps
