From: Janet Barlow <janet.barlow at talk21.com> > What do you feel? Has anybody any experience of such > a system? Am I being unnecessarily paranoid? Be concerned. Be very concerned. As a parent governor I successfully had it removed from my sons' school. A quicker route would be to grow you childs thumbnail a little long so they can 'accidentally' scratch the screen of the scanner. Apparently they are very vulnerable to such scratches. My issue with these scanners is the message they teach children. Schools should teach children the importance of safeguarding their id. They should teach children to question. To ask why. Citizenship should teach children to challenge attempts to infringe civil liberties. Schools with fingerprinting basically teach children to give away their id unquestioningly. Such schools are softening children up for id cards and the database state. These schools make future society vulnerable to becoming a police state. Far fetched? Nowhere comes under an authoritarian dictatorship overnight. It happens little by little, a bit at a time. Often by people who do not realise what they are contributing to until its too late (like the heads at these schools). Object now before its too late. -- Mark Norwood Assistant Headteacher www.avssc.org ======================================================================== This email has been sent from the Bucks LEA.
