But none of those measures include "undiagnosed" dyslexics that schools like
to pretend don't exist.

As of today I "officially" have 2 dyslexic daughters; (we of course have
known this for much longer...)

Our middle daughter who is at our local secondary school is acknowledged as
dyslexic, but the school refuses to provide any special assistance or extra
time, and she is not on their register.

Our eldest daughter, now at Univ. of Hull, when screened today came out with
19 of their 20 indicators of dyslexia/dyspraxia!! Yet when we asked for
extra time at her GCSEs and A Levels, she was offered a handwriting speed
test but then refused any special access arrangements as she wasn't on their
SEN register.

There is still much work to do in some schools here in Wakefield.

Do you mean 'statemented or Band D' for dyslexia', or just assesed by the
edpsych as having SPLD (Specific Learning Difficulty). Dylexia is not a
word that is used 'officially' in our LA and children certainly do not get
statements for SPLD now as readily as the LA has handed them out in the
past. The most they are likely to get is a Band D for Moderate Learning
Difficulties (MLD).

On the Band D for MLD criteria we would have about 2- 3% at our school.
(about 3 -4 Band Ds in each year group of 150)

"what are the current percentage of primary and secondary school pupils
diagnosed as dyslexic by whatever psychological, psychometric or
physiological means?"

Any ideas?

I have heard the 'figure out there' is 10% - but where did that come
from?

Will ask Scottish Executive for their figures -

Is Jean out there? - any ideas?

Tks
