Article: [senco-forum] Voice Recognition

Mary
I don't know where you are based, we are in London. We recently had CENMAC (Centre for Micro-Assisted Communication) in to advise on soft and hardware for a dyspraxic eight year old. Extremely helpful. Info from website www.cenmac.com:

CENMAC support the communication needs of pupils and students with physical disabilities who are receiving their education in schools and colleges throughout inner London. Through the provision of appropriate technological aids they aim to help each child gain full and equal access to the National Curriculum. Children are referred to the centre at all ages but many are first known to them at pre-school stage and continue with their support until they leave further education.
They assess needs, loan appropriate equipment and monitor progress. Throughout the child's educational life the centre will maintain the equipment and liaise with teachers, parents and therapists to ensure its effective use.
The service is supported by an extensive programme of in-service training on matters related to physical impairment and the use of technology within an educational setting. They also organise seminars which focus on the needs and interests of particular professional groups.

What sound card? Whatmicrophone and headphones? What voice recognition package would you use, andwhy? What talking WP would you use with it to help the child pick up hismistakes and train the voice recognition? What are the pitfalls? Many thanks for all advice, Mary
