As Brendan wrote, all forms of ASD need a medical diagnosis. There is a
waiting list of at least 18 months in our health trust.

A (statemented) child in my former school diagnosed as on the autistic
spectrum was given a shorter form of the diagnostic test while attending a
routine visit to the paediatrician, because of this long wait - he had
multiple medical needs and had been seeing said consultant regularly for a
year or so. He was still placed on the list for the full test, but his
extremely high score on the initial test was enough for the paediatrician
to be confident about the diagnosis. It was also enough for us to go
ahead with the statementing process to a successful outcome.

Regards

Jean

Referrals for Aspergers diagnosis go through medical channels. Sometimes
