Secondary writing speed tests are available from PATOSS, done whole class and these students are older they can be given the tedious job of counting each letter /word. Similarly things like Kirklees and the Sentence completion test are whole class. I think all class teachers should do it every year. It can throw up some real anomalies - motor control/writing speed/ as well as chance to mark hard a piece of free writing for content, grammar, spelling etc., The anomalies can be passed to the SENco for further testing and reduce current workload whilst the school has evidence for parents that writing/processing issues have been monitored yearly, along with reading/spelling. End of last minute problems.
