"Every bliddy year it's the same - pupils in the sixth form suddenly
saying they're dyspraxic or dyslexic or something and need extra time -
no provision in their entire lives before, no assessments etc but
parents who say there is a 'problem' - or teachers asy their essays
aren't up to scrtch but they're good orally"
Thanks for this Janice, it made me laugh. There does seem to be a culture of having "A Condition". Very few things set me off as well as someone solemnly informing me, with suitably wounded expression, that their teenager is "probably dyslexic" (emphasis on the probably). No mention before exam time, no attempts to investigate further.
Going ever so slightly off topic, my ex-husband managed to get an extension to complete his masters (for which he hadn't done any work) by using that old classic "my wife left me". My university was less sympathetic "I'm seven months pregnant and I can't walk" didn't get me a trace of sympathy. Is there no justice in the world? ;-)
