Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions so far...for a nasty moment I thought we were about to go off into a slanging match... but .phew.. Most of the suggestions revolve around some form of "internal isolation". We do this for a part session but as a primary school this would be very difficult to staff, for any length of time. I also dont want to become to associated with it too much as I do a lot of Learning Support work - I dont want children with Literacy difficulties seen as "naughty". The other problem is how you actually enforce it, if children run away or refuse to enter the room.... We have tried having parents come to school, but they often have less contol over the children than we do....The tape idea is interesting - I have discussed this with children, but never actually done it - do others? what about video? Our Behaviour Support Team are great, but last time they came they said we were doing evrything...... I can think of lots of small strategies, but I know staff are feeling that this will just be more of the same and that the basic problems remain........ As you can tell things are a bit tough at the moment, but I am really appreciating the forum's brand of advice, which ,as ever, goes from the deeply philosophical thru to the down to earth, "well there's only 20 days to Christmas" thanks to all Kate ----- Original Message ---- From: Luisa Pinnell <luisapinnell at hotmail.com> To: senco forum <senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk> Sent: Wednesday, 28 November, 2007 12:23:00 PM Subject: [senco-forum] Downward spiral in school behaviour, primary Hi, we are secondary and we use internal exclusions instead of fixed term exclusions when possible. This means that the excluded pupil sits all day on her own outside the Head's office, where there is no distractions, or outside the assistant Headteacher's office (again, a rather dull corridor). We always call the parents in.
