Article: [senco-forum] Risk Assessment of a pupil [Scanned]

Hi Susie
I would not know how to start doing this, especially for a design lesson. What I'd do is this:
Ask the teacher (or whoever keeps them) to give you the risk assessment for that lesson. If there isn't one, my understanding is that there should be.
Get the teacher to do the risk assessment with you for that pupil and work out what is an added risk for that individual pupil.
We have a set of computer based LA wide risk assessments which we have to use and our person in charge is used to having to do a risk assessment with those of us who can't remember how to do it!!

Following continuing problems in practical lessons with one of out ASD students who has full TA support I have been advised to undertake a Risk Assessment.

Subject: [senco-forum] Inclusion Manager Pay [Scanned]

Hi,

I am Inclusion Manager at a large primary school, with well over 100 pupils
on my SEN support list. I also have responsibility for child protection,
which is a considerable load in itself. I seem to work all the hours that
god sends and always ensure I give 100% to my role. I manage behaviour,
manage SSAs and over-see our nurturing programme also.

At the beginning of the school year I had a teaching commitment that
amounted to 8 hours per week, but was relieved of this added pressure when
my union intervened. The job became untenable, affecting my health and my
family relationships. Thank goodness for unions!

It has come to my attention that local sencos are receiving more reward for
their efforts and most are on the higher TLR level. I am on TLR 2. I have
been informed that because I no longer have a classroom commitment, I am not
entitled to receive any higher payments. Incidentally, I also provide
learning support to two year groups on a regular basis.

Does anyone receive an SEN allowance as well as a TLR ?

I feel badly done to, but wonder if there are others out there who also feel
under-valued?

Time to call the union I believe!! Inclusion Manager on the cheap?
