[SENco-forum] Pica information??[Scanned]

I have a Looked After Child at school who has a form of Pica. We have to watch him closely, especially in science and practical subjects. Also, he tends to eat chewing gum and things he finds in the bin. It stems from a psychological problem from his early childhood when he didn't know where his next meal was coming from. Now he eats things "just in case".

If this is the eating of small objects (that shouldn't be eaten) then Google
Pica + Learning disability.

I heard of it in conjunction with autism back in the late 70's. I don't know
if it is done without other problems.
