"So what can be done to help these people learn to
read and write?"
As with those who are visually able, it depends, as I
stated, on the severity of their difficulty and their
personal strengths and any other co-morbid conditions.
I am no expert on the visually impaired or how many
visually impaired people are affected by APD, but this
is expected to be 1 in 10 be of the general
population.
APD can exist with any or all other disabilities so
they would need individualised specific care and
teaching, according to their strengths, just like
everyone else. A one size fits all methods, even one
like braille, does not suit everyone. The sponer all
educational professionals stop looking for the quick
fix, the better every child will be.
Best wishes,
Aly
