  If you are looking at Level 1 or below, try Assessing Pupils' Performance Using the P Levels (Paperback) by Val Davis (Author), Di Buck (Author).  It has really helped me with these very low (for secondary school) levels.
  If you also look on teachit.co.uk, there are 'Assessment and Targets' sections in the KS3 section (Level 3 upwards) and the Primary section (Level 2 upwards).  You can get on this and download pdf files free though you need to pay the subscription if you want to download Word documents.  Every English teacher I know uses teachit.co.uk and many English depts pay their subscriptions.
