Hello Richard If you are looking at Level 1 or below, try Assessing Pupils' Performance Using the P Levels (Paperback) by Val Davis (Author), Di Buck (Author). It has really helped me with these very low (for secondary school) levels. If you also look on teachit.co.uk, there are 'Assessment and Targets' sections in the KS3 section (Level 3 upwards) and the Primary section (Level 2 upwards). You can get on this and download pdf files free though you need to pay the subscription if you want to download Word documents. Every English teacher I know uses teachit.co.uk and many English depts pay their subscriptions. Next week I have to do a writing assessment so today I was given the descriptors to assess them by. The lowest level descriptor is Level 3c, and as half of my pupils are below L3 this doesn't help. The Head of English hoped that by me joining the department they might end up with lower (child friendly) descriptors! Having Googled earlier today to no avail - all the other school sites I visited went no lower than level 3c, and before I re-invent the wheel (which being an art teacher would be very creative) do any of you lovely people have such a list of descriptors you are willing to share?
