Article: [senco-forum] an explanation and sorry!

I want to apologise - I am probably what the Cornish call 'teasy' tonight after a hard day.

I just want to share a scenario with everyone.
A class of 30 is in a secondary school - Year 7s to start with but this went on for three years.
Two pupils within the class. One had cateracts in both eyes (the result of radiotherapy and this was in the days when you had to be virtually blind to have them removed). The other had an intermittant hearing loss which meant that his already poor hearing deteriorated to the point where he needed hearing aids but he never noticed when this was happening. The point was that the way I needed to make the lesson work to accommodate one of these two meant that I would automatically and inevitablly fail to meet the needs of the other one.

It is for that reason that I try to be very practical both in what I do and in what I expect others to do. You can't reach everyone all the time. The best you can do is to make sure you meet everyone's needs at least some of the time and you make sure pupils overlearn everything using different learning styles. And you need to be sure that the time you spend on preparation is manageable - this is a job. I already estimate I spend at least 60 hours a week on my work and I can't spend any more time.

So - sorry if I'm teasy but I'm already looking forward to half term!
