Hello
  I am negotiated 'How to be a High Quality Listening Audience' with my classes in recent years.  (Thanks to Diane Pardoe and her wonderful book Towards Successful Learning: Introducing a Model for Supporting and Guiding Successful Learning and Teaching in Schools)
  We have three observable action rules:
  Be quiet
  Look in the right place
  Sit still
   
  If they do that in that order, they can be in a postion to listen successfully.  They make the posters for my room to remind them.
