A couple of years ago I attended an excellent course run by a physiotherapist who is involved in the Handwriting Interest Group - she advocated the use of chalk and blackboards for children with difficulties developing handwriting- not only do small pieces of chalk promote the correct tripod grip, the action of chalk on a board provides enough resistance to give good sensory feedback to children with dyspraxic type difficulties.
