I use chalk & boards as part of the Lois Addy Speed up programme so I am with the physio on that one. It is rather the teacher's attitude back then that I find more a problem. Rather like being made to sit in the corner with a dunces hat on (fact or fiction?). Although on reflection that is probably good for concentration and balance! Fashions come and go - as you say we are in danger of letting go of something's that on reflection or with hindsight prove to be useful. Maybe we threw the baby out with the bathwater! SEN at tringham.net wrote: My husband was made to use a slate in the 70's when the teacher deemed his work to be to untidy to deserve pencil and paper!
