Article: [SENco-forum] Omega 3 study results

I use chalk & boards as part of the Lois Addy Speed up programme so I am
with the physio on that one. It is rather the teacher's attitude back then
that I find more a problem. Rather like being made to sit in the corner with
a dunces hat on (fact or fiction?). Although on reflection that is probably
good for concentration and balance!

Fashions come and go - as you say we are in danger of letting go of
something's that on reflection or with hindsight prove to be useful.

A couple of years ago I attended an excellent course run by a
physiotherapist who is involved in the Handwriting Interest Group - she
advocated the use of chalk and blackboards for children with difficulties
developing handwriting- not only do small pieces of chalk promote the
correct tripod grip, the action of chalk on a board provides enough
resistance to give good sensory feedback to children with dyspraxic type
difficulties. Maybe we threw the baby out with the bathwater!
