Article: [senco-forum] Broad and balanced

Hi Gaynor
I take 'broad and balanced curriculum' to mean that pupils are entitled to do all the subjects the school offers to all pupils. It does not mean that everyone does everything in the same way. It may even mean that some pupils do not do the same number of lessons in a subject (about a third of our pupils do more English lessons than others do in Year 8 for example).
We have disapplied pupils from certain subects because they need to do other things. Example, a boy with a severe physical difficulty never did design. A boy with ASD didn't do any form of games or PE because he could not manage if he or his team lost. Several have been removed from French to do more language work - though this is usually a parental request rather than our first choice move.

Hi everyone.

Can anyone help me please with a clear definition of "broad and balanced
curriculum" as stated within a statement. Specifically in relation to
secondary setting .

I am sure it must be written down somewhere but struggling to find and when
all else fails I am sure that colleagues on the forum will turn up something
.

Thanks in anticipation

Gaynor
