You might run the COPS tests with the child. See www.lucid-research.com Expensive, unfortunately, until we made it a standard test in our LA for kids of 6-7 who weren't making the usual progress with reading. I've run it on one (otherwise apparently unexceptional ) child who was making absolutely no progress with reading- informative!
