Hi,
If there is a family history of "dyslexia" related to
phomenic awareness, then there is likely to be a
family history of APD. If that is the case, even if
the parents haven't spotted it, as they may have lived
with it all their lives without knowing and compensate
by this time in other ways, then this child needs APD
testing ASAP as it will affect far more than reading
and the earlier it is diagnosed the earlier she can
begin to learn, or be taught, coping strategies and
acomodations will ne necessary at school, depending on
its scope and severity. If phonmics fails, she may
nevber learn to read using phionics. So try whole
words and pictures, visual and hands on methods. And
please refer the parents to APDUK for support, as they
will need it.
