Hi Jean I have picked up what you said in your message: 'I could not understand how dyslexics could be undiscovered until they got to college. Are the schools and parents really that negligent?' I have had several pupils who were either undiagnosed in primary school or who left me without a formal diagnosis. What they had in common was that they were highly motivated pupils who were prepared to work hard. They succeeded until their coping strategies became too exhausting and time consuming to cope with. One of them was diagnosed when she broke down just before her finals - and she was the daughter of my excellent TA team leader! When she was doing the memory test for formal diagnosis, she was made to sit on her hands so she could not use them to aid her memory. She also described how she allocated the mumbers in another test to the different colour files behind the tutor's head so she could 'read' them back - she as made to close her eyes after that!
