Stuart, A similar exercise is being undertaken already by the Welsh Assembly Government. We have a Reference Group on SplD ,which has been looking at dyslexia ,dyscalculia, dyspraxia and ADHD under the heading of SPLD. We also have a reference group for SEN and Welsh language. Perhaps we can share our thoughts (direct) and through the FORUM !!! Anyway -here is a way of valuing our contributions... I was at the Scottish Parliament yesterday attending the Cross Party Working Group on dyslexia - looking at provision for dyslexia across Scotland - I have rather foolishly agreed to be part of a sub-group looking at early intervention - though I have stretched the definition to include the following: Nursery Primary Secondary College/University If you would like to be acknowledged for your considered opinion - now is the time! I am going to list (first thought) according to Resources recommended by a user (tried and tested) e.g. LASS/LADS Resources recommended though not used e.g. Nelson dyslexia screener Advantages and disadvantages e.g. using SNAP or DST compared to computer screeners. Any help from the invaluable forum would be much appreciated - and of course once our group presents our findings to the Cross Party Group I will post a copy to all who want it on the Forum - how does that sound? I agree wholeheartedly with your comments regarding the forum. For years I have found it invaluable... on a huge range of issues. I would not want to be without it.. I second the comment that " The forum is a fantastic resource". Regards Anne Message text written by "Paul and Philippa Bodien" >Many people have written on this theme before but in view of two recent mails where people felt the forum was of no value to them and had a high volume of messages... Yes there is high volume. There are also subject titles and a delete button. Over the years I have found that sifting through messages and picking the ones that relate to my work of IMMENSE value. It takes time (something any teacher is always short of) but without the forum I would have missed essential information that I have taken into school and directly applied to my teaching. I have passed on information to colleagues. The forum has been invaluable as a place to ask questions. Responses are many, varied, helpful and highly professional. Without the forum I would not have had the opportunity, for example, to learn of Martin Miles (co-author of Acceleread Accelewrite - now one of our core resources), Ruth Newbury, Jamie Munro, Ian Litterick and ianSYST, Eddie Carron (Electronic Library) and many other well-informed and helpful people. We have Alphasmarts in school as the forum convinced me they are worth having. Two Year 6 boys have had their lives changed by these. The forum is a fantastic resource. Philippa< |
