Yes, I take your point. I asked the question because in most of the primary schools I know the SSAs are overstretched during the Literacy Hour because that is when most kids need most help. You can do so much more to improve pupils' learning if you can have an adult working with them either individually or in a small group. This pupil would lose the benefit of the Literacy Hour input and other pupils would lose the benifit of the SSA's support in the Literacy Hour, it seems to me. " If it were feasible to do so, children should be given as much support as is needed but I took it that this was the only time that the child could be guaranteed this support on a daily basis as SSAa were so stretched. If for this child it helps them access literacy, surely then it is necessary whenever it is done?? Surely it is a priority to help a child, to access an appropriate educationm, no matter how inconvenient? Perhaps under tha circumstances it might be possible to apply for an extra SSA to be specially trained leaving the others free?
