Article: [senco-forum] Entry level English

We do AQA Entry level and i'm finding it fantstic to teach! It's based on
modules - pupils submit the 5 best. You do 2 reading modules and 2 writing
modules and 1 SL. One of the reading and 1 of the wriring has to be an
externally set assignment done in test conditions.

Last year my group did the "media" modules and had great fun looking at
newsapers, adverts etc and then we did the "work" modules as they were
having work exp in summer term. I got our connexions people to help and we
set things up so they had to look at job ads, write a cv / fill in form and
apply for a job. Cx then interviewed them.

Each AQA modules has 3 levels Entry 1, 2 and 3 and all are linked to the AQA
Unit scheme so aftyer each set of modules i sent them to our AQA Unit
moderator and they got "real" glossy certificates. THis year I'm going to do
the leisure modules and then because of school requirements some will have
to be entered for GCSE (!!!) I'm doing a drama module so we can "look" at
Romeo and Juliet and then another which has some poetry.

I'm really impressed with it- having gt fun teaching it as its relevant and
the kids are enjoying it (or seem to be) and love having their certificates.
